大地
October 1st, 2007 by rikiro

Having watched 2 movies in 2 consecutive days, 門徒Protégé & Paris, Je t’aime, I’m in philosophical thoughts… Protégé is a HK blockbuster, which illustrates about the underground drugs industry & human feelings. Part of the movie was shot in Jordan, Kowloon, which I was born & grew up in some 20+ over years ago… Another coincident is, Daniel Wu’s role named 阿力, which is my Chinese middle name & how my parents & most of childhood friends used to call me… In general, I do have a sense of nostalgia when I see the street scene of 上海街, 佐敦, & Andy Lau calling Daniel Wu - 阿力 everytime throughout the movie…
Paris, Je t’aime is about the plurality of cinema in one mythic location: Paris - the City of Love. Twenty filmmakers bring their own personal touch, underlining the wide variety of styles, genres, encounters and the various atmospheres and lifestyles that prevail in the neighbourhoods of Paris. 18 different short stories with not much related connection, my personal favourite is the segment of "Place des Fêtes", storyline about this African musician-turn-labourer from Lagos, who just want to express his feelings to the French-African nurse & invite her to drink a coffee with him. However, this poor man was stabbed, as his crush was saving him, he died in front of her, before the 2 cups of coffee were delivered & his humble wish was unfulfilled…
Euphoria is the feeling of happiness & cheerful excitement, inanity is the feeling of emotional emptiness. Both seems the totally opposite extremes, yet I feel sometimes, both are just a grey-line apart…
Here are some interesting quotes:
吸毒是源于空虚, 究竟是毒品可怕, 還是空虛可怕呢?(Drug consumption is due to emotional emptiness, so are drugs scary, or inanity frightening?)
"There are times when life calls out for a change, a transition, like the seasons. Our spring was wonderful, but summer is over now and we missed out on autumn. And now all of a sudden, it’s cold, so cold that everything is freezing over. Our love fell asleep, and the snow took it by surprise. But if you fall asleep in the snow, you don’t feel death coming…"

A Valentine is nothing like
a chocolate or a rose.
For in a week these shall be gone,
but love remains.
If love is always sweet to tongue
or fragrant to the nose,
each day would be like Valentine’s
and we would go insane.
A Valentine just hangs around,
waiting to be kissed.
Long after the special day has passed,
and every day is missed.
So one is wise to choose one well,
the chocolates & roses to resist.
For in the midst of mania,
it’s nice to have one near,
to call you "dear"…
Quite a clubbing & events week I have so far!
On Mon, I attended iFast’s monthly financial meeting in the morning, communicated in a tele-conference method with my HK counterpart, quite an experience but not satisfied with the HK representative’s reply to my question, totally out of point…
On Wed, I attended Rirkrit Tiravanija’s artist talk @72-13, Mohd Sultan Rd in the evening, quite a mind-opener to meet & listen to the world-renowned contemporary artist… After that, I headed to St. James PowerStation for the official launch of Boiler Room! The performance & atmosphere was simply fantastic,
w
ith Alia, Zuly & Raw Energy, plus special guest-performers from all different SJPS clubs entertaining us there, absolutely mind-blowing! Zuly was stunning as her usual stage- self, Pelukan dan ciuman (Hugs & kisses in Malay)…
Gordon was celebrating his 25th birthday on 8 Feb, happy birthday to you mate, thanks for being a great host @SJPS, may you blossom beyond your father’s achievements…
I received an email invite days ago from Madam Wong’s regarding their Beer-drinking Contest days & was quite keen to join it… I contacted the MarCom Manager - Ning about it & I became 1
of the 6 weekly contestants! It’s a 6-week contest, with 6 contestants each week. The weekly-winner is judged by whoever finishes the Tiger beer in a yard glass in the fastest manner, then 6 weekly-winners will go into the grand final in March with details T.B.A… So on Fri, I dropped by Club MoMo around 10pm+ to meet up with mates, then got myself ready for the contest around midnight back @Madam Wong…
Some bulky-looking men were along the same line with me behind the competition table, but my confident wasn’t shaken… When the emcee said "Ready, Start now!" I gobbled down the beer in my fastest manner, without a while, I turned my empty yard glass upside down & declared myself the fastest to finish! The timer read "13 seconds", well it’s still a respectable record for the local pub scene, of course not to compare with the world record of 5 seconds, by Peter Dowdeswell in Oxfordshire on 4 May 1975…
I won 5 litre of Tiger Beer as winner of the 2nd week, complimentary of Madam Wong’s, so I dragged ppl around me to cheer with me… Finally got done with the lavish amount of beer, I headed back to MoMo & met Khairul Amri chilling with mates! I sent my congrats to him, as he did our nation proud by scoring the 20-yard winner for the Asean Cup, which I watched on TV @Andrew’s house party last Sunday…
TGIF, weekend fever party on, it’s Tiger time!
平日我是 千杯不醉 今天自醉 情人身軀朦朧之中 最愛是誰熱血柔情 忘了錯對...
Just went back to my home from Andrew’s house party @Carisbrooke Grove, enjoyed a fanstatic weekend, yet feel a
bit lost, especially when back to my comfort zone alone…
Started my weekend with Hossan’s Multiple Personality Disorder show @Drama Centre, National Library on Fri evening, hilarious performance from Singapore’s very own talented talkshow artiste, I enjoyed every single minute of the 90mins show! I chatted with Ben & Hossan about our good old time that we used to hangout often in 2001-02, I believe all of us have move on to better prospects too…
Headed to St. James PowerStation
around 10pm+ to celebrating with Marcelly’s friend - Violet’s birthday, wonderful bash, best b’day wishes to Dr Tang! May & her KL friends dropped by later & we had a good time over the booze & yummy Chocolate b’day cake, courtesy of the warm hospitality of Eujin & Celly! Zuly & Celeste dropped by our table to send regards, & we enjoyed their gigs @Boiler Room & Dragonfly as always!
The next day on Sat afternoon, I introduced Kliff to Lenny, who wanted to buy a hatchback car & therefore I met him @Hyundai Alexandra showroom to test drive the Getz… Met our ex-SG Lions caption - Nazri Nasir @the Hyundai reception counter as he’s been working with "Godfather" Teo in recent years on & off the pitch. I even chatted with him about our chance of lifting the Asean Cup Final on SUN, friendly & respectable man he is still… Went back to home around 6pm+ & noticed Fann Wong is filming just below my room @Bishan Heights! I viewed the whole filming process from my room window, yet being a part-time actor with MCS, no special feelings as I’ve worked with her & the director on-set before, but still felt good as it’s filmed in my lovely square garden within 10 metre of my eyesight…
Arrived in Andrew’s home party @Carisbrooke Grove after I cooked my speciality nachos dish around 6pm, Joe & Lyndnn dropped by later, while I was excitingly watching the 2nd leg of Asean Cup Final on TV… I screamed into excitement when Khairul Amri equalised from a 20 yards scorcher in the 82 mins! 1-1 the final & the SG Lions have
won the Asean Cup on a 3-2 aggregate & lifted the cup for the 3rd time in Bangkok, hurray!
Back to home just before midnight & glad to know my buddy - Lucas has got in the final round of DreamD8, we’ll definitely support you within our abilities for the title in coming weeks, cheers, bro!

1 month has gone in 2007, enjoyable so far, sometimes you just gotta "feel"…
Lush 99.5 2nd Anniversary JazzaNova Party @Café del Mar last Sat didn’t disappoint me, it’s a blast! I was there after my Spanish Meetup @Station Kitchen around 6pm, relaxing at a comfortable beach bed
facing the seaview, unwinding myself… My mates & the crowd started to pour in around 8pm, lotsa personality were there, chatted with Jean Danker, Don Richmond, X’Ho, Tracy Phillips etc… I hanged out with the SG Idols of both seasons - Taufik & Hady, as a fellow musician, I envy their luck &
tenacity in the SG Idols competition, yet I’m contented to be myself as I’m still involved in the media/entertainment industry…
The FHM Girls Next Door 2007 were approaching me & my friends to vote for them, knew some of them & of course I was glad to support them! Met 1 of the gals named Fiona, as I told her that’s my favourite name, faithful readers of Simply Rikiro, you know the reason lah…
I was in cloud nine when I knew the news that SG Lions had won the penalty shoot-out 5-4 over Malaysia & being in the Asean Cup Final, as I shared the joy with Don & Taufik! After meeting enough ppl & booze, I headed back to the main island before midnight by the efficient Sentosa Monorail, quite cool!
Relaxing on SUN & back to usual work routine on Mon & Tues, nothing special to blog about… On Wed, I went back to MCS to do post-production dubbing, quite an experience & bump into my mate - Victor at the wardrode unit coincidentally! Had my haircut in Kimage @Funan, better to have a neater look… Intended to support the SG Lions @National Stadium, but all my kakis couldn’t make it, so I watched the SG Lions vs Thailand @Vino Vino over my sirloin steak dinner instead… A dramatic match that SG Lions won 2-1 for the Asean Cup Final 1st leg due to a controversial penalty to SG & the 15-min walk-off of the Thai team, enough said…
My Jakarta-based primary school friend - Henri visited me in my PIAS office during lunchtime today. I felt touched because despite he’s only staying over in SG for 1 day, he enquired me about his medical coverage protections, which most young ppl don’t realise the importance of…
Well, life may not be a "Bed of Roses", which Bryan sang @Insomnia just few hours ago, I just hope that so "Feb" so good…

‘Cause I got too much life, running through my veins…"
